Routes to go by mountain bike in the province of Tenerife

The two Canary provinces have sufficient route options to make an unforgettable MTB tour. Especially attractive are the routes of the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, composed of the islands of Tenerife, La Gomera, La Palma and El Hierro. In Tenerife, in addition, one of the most demanding marathon tests in Spain is celebrated, the Teide 360, with its more than 120 kilometers around the volcano and reaching the 3,000 meter altitude level. We propose to discover the routes with volcanic earth paths of Tenerife -and views of the Teide -, the visit to the Garajonay National Park in La Gomera or a descent route from the heights of the island of La Palma, more than 1,500 meters from Height to the beach, in just 15 kilometers. The Canary Islands have unique routes of Mountain Bike and is an essential cycling destination, for its network of very well exploited paths and its variety and natural wealth.

Las Lagnetas Route

In the northeast of the island of Tenerife is the place of the lagunets. A wooded area with pines and other species of endemic trees of the Canary Islands. It is one of the most frequented areas by hikers and cyclists throughout Tenerife. In this unique natural environment it is possible to perform this XC Marathon route with positive slope above 1,000 meters, in whose initial section of 18 kilometers several rises per track are linked with some intercalated asphalt sections.

We continue in the north of Tenerife, but this time in the west area, to travel one of the unique mountain bike routes of the Island, by the Chinyero Natural Reserve and the Forest Crown. We will roll along paths and trails between pine forests, whose characteristic gray -gray of volcanic rock will give unique stamps of the crossing. Rolling in the middle of a volcanic landscape, with rocks and volcanic ashes and very close to Teide is a unique experience that can only be lived on this route and on the island of Tenerife. The tour is perfectly marked and guided on wide track or road in good condition.

Garajonay Route

On the island of La Gomera it is possible to travel by mountain bike part of the Garajonay National Park, the fifth of the most visited national parks network throughout Spain. The space stands out for being the only great reserve in Europe with Laurisilva forests, a forest with subtropical plant species that covered a good part of the old continents ago millions of year and that are only alive in certain areas of the Canary Islands. Part of these prehistoric forests can be traveled by bikes by delimited paths immersing us in a natural space of high botanical value. The relief of the route, meanwhile, is quite broken, with succession of repeches that will not give rest to our legs.

You cannot miss the Island of La Palma, the second in extension of the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. On this island, time also seems to have stopped for the beauty of volcanic landscapes and forests of Canary endemic species. We propose a descent route in MTB (recommended double suspension) from the greenest and most high zone of the island, in the recreational area of the Pilar, to the town of Salemera, already on the coast. In total there are 15 kilometers down by clues and trails that navigate successively through all floors or vegetation levels of the eastern slope of the island, from the wet pine forest to the arid coast.
