Burgos is one of the most tourist Castilla and León provinces, which offers a mixture of charming towns and cities and a lot of history and mixing of different landscapes, from Castilian plain to green meadows more typical of bordering communities such as Cantabria or the Basque Country.
It is a land of transition between the two predominant climates of the Iberian Peninsula, the Mediterranean and the Oceanic. We propose three routes that exemplify this variety of landscapes and climates to the maximum, also seasoned with enclaves loaded with history, such as the city of Burgos or the Sierra de Atapuerca.
Burgos - Atapuerca
A tour loaded with history that begins next to the Museum of Human Evolution of the provincial capital and that is directed in the direction of the famous site where the remains of the oldest hominid in Europe were found.
The route is quite affordable in the physical and technical, with only a rise in the entity in the Sierra de Atapuerca, towards the middle of the route. It does so through the layout of an old mining railway from the late nineteenth century that was abandoned and disused and has now recovered as a green route for hiking and mountain bike.
The route can be done in a single day or divide it into two stages, establishing an intermediate stop in Pineda de la Sierra, at kilometer 25. Thus can be done much more affordable if it is done with family or friends who do not have a physical level Very good but want to enjoy a natural environment of great value. Las Merindades is a beautiful region located north of the province of Burgos that stands out for its beautiful mountain towns and its green mountains. Its landscape involves the transition line between the Atlantic climate of Cantabria and the Mediterranean of the Castilian plateau.
This route has an output and final in the town of Espinosa de los Monteros, from which it is split in the southern direction to climb the Bedon peak, 1,092 meters high. From your top you can enjoy beautiful views of the green fields of the region.
