Routes to go by mountain bike in the province of León
León is a territory that perfectly combines more relaxed routes of plain or half mountain with high mountain crossings in a few kilometers. It is a perfect province for Cycotourism in MTB, with a multitude of routes on natural places of high value and small locations that still retain the architecture and customs of yesteryear.
Likewise, it marks the crossroads of two of the most visited long -distance cycling routes: the road of La Plata and the Camino de Santiago for its slope of the French road. Some of the routes that we present below travel part of these routes. Do not forget about visiting the region of the Bierzo, with very attractive places to get lost by bicycle and typical villages with a rich mining tradition.
León - Las Lomas
Lomas is a small population located 8 kilometers from León, surrounded by hills with numerous roads and trails between fir forests. From those hills you can have spectacular views of the city of León and its slender Gothic Cathedral. A route that leaves the capital of the province and that travels its surroundings. Recommended to do it in autumn or spring. As for difficulties, the climb to the Lomas of 2.8 kilometers stands out, after which a row -on land begins with the Alto de la Hoya and the Vallín de León.
Cacabelos is a beautiful town located between Ponferrada and Villafranca del Bierzo, in the middle of the Bierzo region. Mountain nature and cycling shake hands on this tour of the old Leonese Mining Basin, which coincides with the local cycling march, the trepviñas. A technical trace with technical ups and downs, steps by rivers and streams, chestnut forests and vineyards. A route that has everything and that will allow us to discover one of the historical regions of León.
In the north of the province of León, almost on the border with Lugo, the Ancares Valley is located. A paradise of cycling in León chaired by the famous mountain port of ancares, one of the essentials for the road cyclist for its hardness and beautiful landscapes.
This high mountain route in Mountain Bike travels part of these beautiful landscapes, with splendid views of the Valley and its green and wooded mountains, in addition to its typical mountain towns with stone houses and slate roofs.
Most of the route we will do it on forest track in good condition. A journey of XC Marathon with a lot of slope and hard on the long and constant increases that are faced in their almost 50 kilometers.
