Routes to go by mountain bike in the province of Ávila

Ávila is one of the provinces where nature and cycling are inseparable. A land of great attachment to the bicycle, which has contributed famous winning cyclists such as Julio Jiménez, Ángel Arroyo or El Chava Jiménez. Its irregular and broken orography, with the Sierra de Gredos as a nucleus and origin of many cycling routes, offers a very attractive environment for the practice of the bicycle. Mediterranean forest landscapes, a large number of rivers and streams, high mountain paths, picturesque peoples of history and an exquisite gastronomy are enough reasons to take your bike and make a getaway through some of its cycling itineraries, some expressly conditioned for practice of the Mountain Bike.

Avila Boat Route - Bohoyo - Barco de Ávila

Route of moderate difficulty by the beautiful landscapes and pastures in the foothills of the Sierra de Gredos. From the town of Barco de Ávila, a beautiful medieval town, famous for its old bridge over the Tormes River and its XII Castle, we must go southeast direction looking for the first mountainous difficulty of the Alto de Montenegro. After crowning and going down to a small stretch of road surrounded by holm oaks, again we enter the paths of the Tormes Valle Ávila boat again. An affordable route if you have some experience with the bicycle and surrounded by beautiful landscapes, pastures and grass fields next to the Sierra de Gredos.

The beautiful and steep Cordillera of the central system has innumerable routes and paths of medium and high mountain to enjoy the MTB at all levels. It is a circular route proposed by the BTT Center under Tiétar, which offers bicycle rental services and guided routes by the town of Candeleda and the mountains that surround this town.

In the vicinity of the city of Ávila there is also a lot of land to practice mountain cycling. Dehesas landscapes, cattle fields, streams, rivers and a reservoir, the castro of the co -otas, are part of this broken route with start and end in the capital of Abulense. Not only can you enjoy the beauty of the Medieval Historic District of Ávila with its famous walls whose construction dates from the eleventh century. Also of its rural environment with tracks and paths of up and down, stony sections and views of the reservoir of the Cogotas, a few 10 kilometers from the capital and in the Valley of the Adaja River, one of the most important tributaries of the Duero. It is an accessible route, although of land of the so -called Break legs, that combines the typical landscapes of Dehesa Castilana with holm oaks and thicket with the historical-cultural component of the city of Ávila.
