If yours are the cycling plans; If professional cycling is your excuse to travel around the world; If you need to reserve the sofa to devour your favorite races; If you need to program a working meeting that does not interf
top.
As usual, the WorldTour male squad starts the 2023 season in Australia, with the dispute of Santos Tour Down Under (January 17-22). On February 25, the first test of the highest category in Europe is celebrated: the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad. Conform, together with the Kuurne-Buselas-Kuurne (not included in this calendar), the inaugural weekend of the Belgian Classic season with Pavés.
The great change in this year's calendar comes with the world championships of Scotland. An event that, in addition, will have the attraction of agglutinating all cycling modalities, in what is expected to be an authentic
Supermundial. It will be held from August 3 to 13, instead of the usual dates of September.
Although this event is not part of the WorldTour calendar itself, it will condition the preparation of a good part of the runners. The best cyclists will reach this test with the point of extra (or more, as you look) that provides the gala round. It could also condition, in part, the final stretch of the season, starting with the return to Spain, traditionally exploited by many cyclists in preparation for world championships. We will check it.
The most important tests
The 110th edition of the Tour de France will begin in Bilbao on July 1. It will be the second time in history that

For its part, the Italian 2023 turns complies with its 106th edition, starting on Saturday, May 6 in Los Abruzos, with an individual crone of 18 kilometers; Llana mostly, but with a short final climb to finish off.
And to end with the big laps, Barcelona will house the beginning of the 78th edition of the Tour of Spain, on August 26, with the dispute of a spectacular counterreloj by teams of 14 km. After three weeks, the squad will arrive in Madrid on September 17.
Beyond the big laps, there are quotes that deserve special attention. This is the case of spring classics. In 2023 they return on their usual dates. Something that did not happen since 2019. both the pandemic, as well as the modifications of 2021 and the change between the Amstel Gold Race and the Paris-Roubaix of 2022, influenced the temporal disorder of the calendar.
And if we talk about classics, it is forced to underline the dates of celebration of the five
Monuments; take note:
- Milan-San Remo: March 18.
- Flanders Tour: April 2.
- Paris-Roubaix: April 9.
- Lieja-Bastogne-Lieja: April 23.
- Il Lombardia: October 7.

News in the score system
The 2023 season is marked by novelties in the scoring system applied by the ICU in the different WorldTour races. As you know, we talk about the points that can decide the permanence and descent of the teams of the highest category to the continental category.
Greater weight is granted to the big turns and
Monuments (Milan-San Remo, Flanders Tour, Paris-Roubaix, Lieja-Bastogne-Lieja and Il Lombardia), with the aim of granting the value that the most prestigious tests of the calendar deserve.
Consequently, the value of the UCI points attributed to the Tour de France, Tour of Italy and return to Spain increases, applying to both the leaders of the classification and the best classified at each stage. Likewise, the ICU has also created a special category for the five
Monuments. In this way, cyclists get more points in those races than in other one day WorldTour tests.
The tour winner goes from obtaining 1,000 points to 1,300. The winners back and twist, from 850 to 1,100; and the winners of Monuments They get 800 points instead of 500.
There will also be an increase in the number of points attributed in the races in stages, granting points to end below the third place (up to fifth, tenth or fifteenth, depending on the type of test). They will also add extra points the world championships in the elite category, both in the route test and counterreloj.
The objective of these changes, according to the UCI itself, is to make a difference between the points obtained in the most prestigious races with respect to the most modest tests. In this way, the teams are encouraged to register their best runners in the most important races, thus creating a score system more adjusted to the relevance of each event.
Until now, the World UCI ranking by teams has been calculated by adding the points obtained by the 10 runners with the highest score of each team. From 2023, this will extend to the 20 best of each team.
