Éric Barone breaks the world speed record on a mountain bike on snow

Éric Barone bate el récord mundial de velocidad en bicicleta de montaña sobre nieve

At 56 years old, the Frenchman Éric Barone has set a new world speed record on a bicycle over snow, reaching 227.7 km/h. He achieved this extreme challenge by descending a snowy slope with his mountain bike, surpassing his own previous record of 223.3 km/h.

Barone is a leading figure in the world of extreme sports and has taken on numerous speed challenges on a bicycle throughout his carrera. His career has been marked by challenges that have pushed both mountain bikes and road bikes to the limit, breaking records in extreme terrains.

A carrera full of speed and challenges

Throughout his career, Éric Barone has descended slopes of snowy mountains and volcanoes around the world. Among his most iconic settings are Mount Fuji (Japan), Mauna Kea (Hawaii), Etna (Italy) and more than 20 volcanoes in Nicaragua, all of them places where he has pushed the resistance of bicycles to the maximum.

The 227.7 km/h record was achieved with a specialized mountain bike, designed to withstand the extreme conditions of snow and high speeds without mechanical assistance. This means that the cyclist reached this speed solely with the slope and the strength of his legs.

Bicycle speed records: who is the fastest?

The absolute speed record on a bicycle still belongs to Bruce Bursford, who reached 334.6 km/h with a road bike on an assisted roller. However, Éric Barone's achievement stands out for having been accomplished in real conditions, on snow and without any kind of external assistance.

With this new milestone, Barone says goodbye to the world of extreme challenges after 22 years of cycling records, leaving an impressive legacy in speed cycling.
