Spaniards prefer swimming and cycling before football
Football is the sport that monopolizes more presence and prominence in the media. It is also the one that generates the greatest audiences when it comes to following a sports competition through television. However, when it comes to leaving the sofa and putting on the tracksuit, the Spaniards park the ball through the pool and the bicycle.
According to the 2015 Sports Statistics Summary published by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports, Swimming and Cycling are the sports activities that the Spaniards like best, ahead of football. Swimming is the preferred sport for 22.4% of Spaniards over 15. Second is cycling (19.8%), either road or Mountain Bike, and in third position is football (17.9%). Running appears as the fourth sport preferred by Spaniards to practice (13.4%).
The three segments that make up the triathlon (swimming, pedaling and running) are among the four favorite physical and sports activities in Spain.
The report prepared by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports also reveals that four out of ten Spaniards over 15 years of age performs some type of sports activity, and that more than 90 percent of them do so regularly once once week.
