Routes for mountain biking in the province of Soria

Rutas para salir en bicicleta de montaña en la provincia de Soria

Soria, one of the symbols of so-called "emptied Spain," is becoming an emerging destination for cycling enthusiasts. Thanks to its varied terrain and natural wealth, the province offers spectacular routes both for those who enjoy mountain bikes and for fans of road bikes.

Mountain bike lovers will find in Soria ideal settings for adventure on two wheels, with routes through the Cañón del Río Lobos, the lush Pinares de Urbión, the challenging Sierra de Cabrejas, and the semi-desert landscapes of Medinaceli or Arcós de Jalón, which offer unique contrasts on every ride.

On the other hand, road cyclists can enjoy long journeys between towns full of history, such as Burgo de Osma, Almazán, and Medinaceli, traveling along secondary roads with little traffic and impressive landscapes. In addition, the capital city of Soria itself is a perfect starting point to explore the province by bike, combining sport and tourism in a privileged environment.

With its impressive landscapes and its growing commitment to cycling tourism, Soria is establishing itself as an essential destination for any cycling enthusiast. 🚴‍♂️🌿🏞️

Cañón del Río Lobos Route

An essential mountain bike route if you visit Soria and one of the most attractive in this guide. We venture into the setting of the Cañón del Río Lobos Natural Park. A karstic landscape formed by the river, leaving beautiful rock formations, sinkholes, caves, and pools that can be explored along very fun trails. In addition, we will briefly cross into the province of Burgos to climb to the Cañón viewpoint from Hontoria del Pinar, where we will enjoy spectacular views of the Cañón and its gorges. A route halfway between XC and Trail suitable for any medium-level biker with minimal mountain biking experience.

Celtiberian Ring Route

The Celtiberian Ring is a great route that can be done by mountain bike or on foot in stages, covering much of the province while visiting the places where the first Celtiberian settlers of the province established themselves. This route corresponds to the first stage, starting in Soria city and ending in Sotillo del Rincón. It is an accessible route up to kilometer 40, tracing the course of the Duero River northward and passing through areas of great scenic interest such as the Campillo de Buitrago reservoir or the Valonsadero mountain viewpoint.

Montes Blancos Route

The south of the province of Soria, around the towns of Medinaceli and Arcos de Jalón, is a very interesting place to plan a mountain bike route. Rugged, almost lunar landscapes with white limestone plateaus form a unique scenery to ride through. In Arcos de Jalón, there is a BTT center of the same name that organizes and manages routes through this unique natural environment. One of these routes is the Montes Blancos route, which is quite accessible and even suitable for gravel, with spectacular views of the Jalón valley on its Soria and Aragon sides, or the beautiful trail alongside the Valladar stream ravine.
