Cannondale: A Brand Born to Break the Rules

Cannondale entered the cycling world with a bang. Known for its bold, unconventional designs, it quickly stood out from the crowd — sometimes baffling traditionalists, but always pushing the boundaries. Today, it’s a benchmark brand in the world of high-performance bikes.

What sets Cannondale apart is its clear identity: from its iconic single-sided Lefty fork on mountain bikes, to its commitment to carbon frames and cutting-edge engineering.
Innovation is in its DNA. Cannondale, designed in the United States and manufactured in Taiwan, has a long track record of disrupting the market. It was the first brand to create the now-standard BB30 bottom bracket system — a breakthrough later adopted across the industry.

Back in the day, Cannondale challenged MTB norms with bold suspension systems that combined the steering and fork structure into one wild-looking design. On the road side, its frames stood out with oversized tubing, visually distinct from what most other brands were doing at the time.

Thinking About Buying a Second-Hand Cannondale?

Then you're in the right place. At Tuvalum, you can buy a refurbished Cannondale without leaving home. Our online platform makes it easy to find the model you’ve always wanted — at the best possible price.

Because these are second-hand bikes, you can save anywhere from 20% to 60% compared to the price of a brand-new model. But the benefits go beyond just the savings.

At Tuvalum, we pioneered the concept of certified refurbished bikes. Every Cannondale goes through an extensive reconditioning process by our team of expert mechanics. Each bike meets the strictest quality standards — the same ones required for brand-new bikes sold in the European Union. Cannondale’s Most Popular Models

Cannondale is more than a brand — it’s what marketers call a Lovemark: a name that inspires loyalty and passion among thousands of riders around the world. Its lineup today goes far beyond the early days when red and white bikes dominated its catalog.

  • Cannondale SuperSix EVO: One of the brand’s top road bikes, praised for its ultra-lightweight frame and perfect blend of stiffness and comfort — ideal for mountain climbs and descents.

  • Cannondale Synapse: Another excellent road bike, designed with endurance and comfort in mind for long asphalt rides.

  • Cannondale Scalpel: A benchmark in cross-country MTB, known for its revolutionary Lefty fork and elite-level performance.

  • Cannondale Moterra: A top choice for those seeking the power and versatility of an electric mountain bike, combining rugged design with motor-assisted muscle.

How do Lefty forks work?

You either love it or you don’t — but one thing’s for sure: Cannondale’s Lefty fork doesn’t go unnoticed.

This single-sided suspension fork is one of the brand’s signature innovations. It’s not just about looks — the Lefty is known for its durability and shock-absorption capabilities. Unlike traditional forks, it uses a needle bearing system instead of bushings, which results in smoother travel and increased stiffness. It’s a game-changer in the MTB world.

History: Innovation from Day One

Cannondale was born in 1971 in a loft above a pickle factory in Wilton, Connecticut. The brand took its name from the nearby Cannondale train station. Originally focused on making camping gear, it quickly pivoted to bicycles as it recognized the booming demand for quality bikes. It wasn’t the last time Cannondale tried something different — in the 1990s, it briefly ventured into motorcycles, a risky move that didn’t pan out and led to the company’s sale in 2003.

From the start, Cannondale’s design and manufacturing hubs were split — bikes were designed in Bethel, Connecticut, and built in Bedford, Pennsylvania. This separation allowed the brand to double down on innovation and production quality.

Its early road bikes, with their oversized aluminum tubing, were unlike anything else on the market. At a time when thin steel frames were the norm, Cannondale’s bold approach turned heads — not always for the right reasons. But the brand stuck to its guns.

A major breakthrough came with Mario Cipollini, the flamboyant sprinter who raced with the Saeco team. His red Cannondale bike — custom-painted to match his kit — helped change perceptions. Cipollini's wins opened the door for Cannondale to be taken seriously in European pro cycling.

In 2004, the Cannondale name shone brightly in the Giro d’Italia, where riders Damiano Cunego and Gilberto Simoni dominated the race aboard the lightest bike ever made — weighing in under 6.8 kg, below the UCI’s legal limit. That moment sparked the iconic slogan: “Legalize My Cannondale.”
