Spanish Utah Route

The area around Calatayud, in the south of Zaragoza province, offers very appealing routes for mountain biking, due to its striking rock formations and plateaus of the Sierra de Armantes. It is also known as the Zaragozan Far West or the Spanish Utah. Here, you can feel as if you were on the trails of Moab or Monument Valley in the American West, but on Aragonese land. A must-do route if you like to ride surrounded by rugged landscapes with your bike, or want to get the best photos of your trip. Recommended for all types of riding, although a certain technical level is needed to handle some of the descents, which are very rocky and have steep sections.

Mequinenza Reservoir Route
In Mequinenza, at the eastern end of the province of Zaragoza, lies the so-called Sea of Aragon, the Mequinenza Reservoir. It is one of the largest reservoirs in Spain, containing the waters of the country's highest-flowing river confluence, where the Cinca and Segre rivers join the Ebro. This route, signposted at the initiative of the Bajo Cinca region, traverses the rugged terrain around the reservoir. The route visits the dam, the upper part of the Sierra de Mequinenza, and the Ribarroja Reservoir. The route features constant uphill climbs over predominantly dry terrain. Good physical fitness is required to manage them well.

Sos del Rey Católico Route
The borders of the province of Zaragoza reach almost to the Pre-Pyrenees in the region of Cinco Villas, whose capital is Sos del Rey Católico. Declared a Historic-Artistic Site and Site of Cultural Interest, this beautiful medieval village, built on a hilltop to emphasize its defense centuries ago, is the starting point for a circular route around its attractive surroundings. The route passes through the town of Navardún and climbs up to the Finca de Roita, where you can see its semi-ruined medieval castle, but with beautiful views of the mountains and the Navarrese enclave of Petilla. An easy route, with the only difficulty being the climb to Roita, which features a loose and rocky track.
