The two Canary provinces offer enough route options to make an unforgettable MTB tour. Especially attractive are the routes in the province of Santa Cruz of Tenerife, which is made up of the islands of Tenerife, La Gomera, La Palma, and El Hierro. In Tenerife, one of the most demanding marathon races in Spain is also held, the Teide 360, with more than 120 kilometers of route around the volcano and reaching an altitude of 3,000 meters. We invite you to discover routes with volcanic dirt trails in Tenerife—with views of Teide—, to visit the Garajonay National Park in La Gomera, or to take a downhill ride from the heights of the island of La Palma, from over 1,500 meters high down to the beach in just 15 kilometers. The Canary Islands have unique mountain bike routes and are an essential cycling destination, thanks to their well-developed network of trails and their natural variety and richness.
Las Lagunetas Route

We remain in the north of Tenerife, but this time in the west area, to ride one of the island’s unique mountain bike routes, through the Chinyero nature reserve and the Corona Forestal. We will ride along paths and trails among pine forests, whose characteristic grayish volcanic rock surface will create unique scenes along the journey. Riding in the middle of a volcanic landscape, with volcanic rocks and ash and very close to Teide, is a unique experience that can only be lived on this route and on the island of Tenerife. The route is perfectly marked and guided along wide tracks or well-maintained paths.

Garajonay Route

On the island of La Gomera, it is possible to ride a mountain bike through part of the Garajonay National Park
, the fifth most visited national park network in all of Spain. The area stands out as the only large reserve in Europe with laurel forests, a forest with subtropical plant species that covered much of the old continent millions of years ago and now only survive in certain areas of the Canary Islands. Parts of these prehistoric forests can be explored by bike along marked trails, immersing us in a natural area of high botanical value. The route's terrain is quite rugged, with a succession of slopes that will give our legs no rest.

El Pilar Descent

You also can't miss visiting the island of La Palma, the second largest in the province of Santa Cruz of Tenerife. On this island, time also seems to have stood still due to the beauty of its volcanic landscapes and forests of endemic Canarian species. We suggest a downhill MTB route (recommended full suspension) from the greenest and highest area of the island, at the El Pilar recreational area, down to the town of Salemera, already on the coast. In total, it's 15 kilometers of descent along tracks and trails that successively pass through all the vegetation zones on the eastern side of the island, from the humid pine forest to the arid coast.
- Difficulty: Difficult
- Type: Trail / Enduro
- Distance: 15.2 kilometers
- Negative elevation: 1,573 meters
