The Autonomous City of Melilla is located in Cabo de las Tres Forcas, a small peninsula north of RIF that is declared a site of biological and ecological interest because it is the habitat of more than one hundred native species both terrestrial and aquatic. UIXAN MINAS ROUTE
This Mountain Bike route starts from Melilla by bordering the Chica Sea to the Uixan Mines, an old Spanish mining enclave after the town of Nador. It is a long route, but not excessively complicated of reality. The first part of the path, to Nador, is completely plain rolling parallel to the Chica Sea (also called Nador Lagura), an alfubera of great biological importance. The toughest part of this route is between kilometers 40 and 50, when the gurugú rises through the southern face. Once this mountain is crowned, the return to Melilla is always downhill.
The African is a 75 -kilometer BTT test organized by the Legion de Melilla. This route is part of the tour of this test in its 2018 edition. The layout travels the perimeter of the Autonomous City and has great attractions and contrasts, such as the quartered fortifications, the sea views from cliffs and a last section crossing the old Walled City. The route has few sections of technical difficulty, except for some revured descents and a staggered climb that can only be drawn down the bicycle.
The castle of La Tazuda is an ancient military fortification on the top of Mount Gurugú, south of Melilla, very close to the city of Nador.
