Descubre las mejores rutas en bicicleta de montaña por la provincia de Lugo

Lugo encapsulates the entire essence of Galicia in its more than 9,000 km² of varied landscapes full of history. As the largest province in the Galician community, it offers cycling routes that cross both its impressive coast and its rural interior.

For those who enjoy road bikes, riding along the coast of Lugo is a unique experience. Its rugged cliffs and spectacular beaches, such as the famous Playa de las Catedrales, make every pedal stroke a visual delight. In contrast, the interior of the province invites you to explore traditional villages, ancient Celtic forts, and natural landscapes that keep the Galician rural charm alive.

If adventure cycling is your thing, mountain bikes are perfect for exploring the impressive Sil canyons, on the border with Ourense. These spectacular gorges that rise above the Miño River are ideal for those seeking challenging and adrenaline-filled routes.

In addition, Lugo is a key stop on the Camino de Santiago, allowing cyclists to follow historic itineraries, immerse themselves in the culture of pilgrimage, and complete beautiful stretches until reaching Santiago de Compostela.

Whatever your style, Lugo has ideal routes to explore on a mountain bike or road bike, combining nature, history, and unforgettable landscapes.

Ruta Camino del Cantábrico

A beautiful and very interesting route along the coast of Lugo, with some places of special interest such as the Playa de Las Catedrales in Ribadeo, the Ría de Foz and the rest of the beaches, cliffs, ancient Celtic forts, and many more surprises. The route is undulating with continuous ups and downs. The toughest part of the route is the section of the Ría de Foz, from kilometer 30 to 40.

Ruta Lagos de Teixeiro

A very attractive bike ride starting and ending in the city of Lugo. At kilometer 15 we reach the Lagos de Teixeiro, a recreational area with ponds surrounded by lush forests where it is a must to stop to recharge or take photos. The route continues southeast after climbing to the wind farm of the Sierra de Monciro and returns west towards Lugo. The route runs mostly along forest tracks, although there are sections of paths covered with vegetation where you will need to be more careful. The route is manageable both physically and technically, with sections of great natural beauty and some fun downhill trails.

Sil Canyon Route

Starting in Monforte de Lemos, the route heads south towards the Sil River Canyons, one of the most impressive river and natural landscapes in Galicia. The Sil River forms a deep canyon in its course that is worth admiring from the many viewpoints available. The canyon viewpoint is located 20 kilometers from Monforte, most of which is uphill. The rest of the route is favorable terrain back to Monforte de Lemos.
