Córdoba by bike: routes to discover the province on two wheels
Córdoba is a province with a great tradition and passion for cycling. Its varied landscapes and rich culture make it an ideal place to explore by pedal power, whether you are a fan of mountain bikes or prefer road bikes.
From the northern and southeastern sierras to the vast plains covered with olive trees, every corner of this Andalusian land deserves to be explored with patience and effort. In addition, it is essential to visit its capital, Córdoba, whose impressive historical and artistic heritage of Arab legacy—with the Mosque-Cathedral as its undisputed jewel—turns any route into a journey to the past.

Below, we suggest three representative cycling routes to discover the best of the province of Córdoba:
1. Córdoba city and its historic surroundings
An ideal route for those who prefer to pedal on asphalt with a road bike, discovering monuments, cobbled streets, and nearby natural parks like Los Villares. The route combines history and nature just a few kilometers from the city center.
2. Vía Verde del Aceite – Sierras Subbéticas
A perfect option for those looking for a long and scenic route by mountain bike. This route, which follows the old Oil Train path, crosses viaducts, tunnels, and spectacular landscapes of the Sierras Subbéticas Natural Park.
3. Through bandit lands – Sierra Morena
A demanding and adventurous route, ideal for the most daring MTB riders. It travels the paths and trails of the Cordoban Sierra Morena, where the rugged terrain is mixed with the legend of ancient bandits and Andalusian farmsteads hidden among the vegetation.
🔆 Important tip: Avoid the summer months, as the high temperatures in Córdoba can make cycling difficult. Autumn and spring are the most recommended seasons to enjoy these routes to the fullest.

Route through the Sierra de Córdoba
This route will reveal to you the best trails in the Cordoban mountains, close to the provincial capital. Many of the trails are those used in the Andalucía Bike Race
event, such as the Cuesta del Reventón that we find at the beginning of the route. We visit places of interest like the Cortijo del Caño or the Fuente del Elefante. The pine forests and Mediterranean scrubland vegetation will accompany you on this route, which we recommend doing in spring and autumn, due to the climate and the green of the Andalusian countryside.

The route begins at the Guadajoz River viaduct, a spectacular iron and concrete bridge suspended over the riverbed where the old Oil Train used to pass. The Cordoban towns of Luque, Zuheros, Doña Mencía, or Lucena are visited, towns with a rich history, architecture, and gastronomy. In addition, the route passes through the mountain landscapes of the Subbética Natural Park or nature reserves such as the Laguna del Salobral. A route of high scenic and cultural value.

To the north of the province of Córdoba lies Cardeña, a small town that boasts one of the ideal natural environments for biking, such as the Sierra de Cardeña y Montoro Natural Park, right in the heart of the Sierra Morena. A land that was once home to bandits and outlaws is now a beautiful area of hills, with holm oak forests, pastures, and grazing land for cows and sheep. In the middle of the route, we cross the Yeguas River, but if you do this route in summer, you'll find its riverbed almost dry.
