Cantabria is one of the green paradises of Spain. A unique land to practice Mountain Bike, with countless routes and routes from which it has been difficult to make a selection of the most representative.
In a few kilometers you can enjoy more affordable routes next to the coast with very demanding routes in the physical and technical by the Cantabrian mountain range on paths that touch the 2,000 meters of altitude. You can also start the Camino de Santiago from Cantabria through the Northern Camino.
In addition to the routes, it is possible to visit mountain villages with a lot of charm, enjoy the incredible local cuisine, such as cheeses, meats and fish, and visit their multitude of beaches and cliffs of the coast. In Cantabria you can spend a very complete cycling holiday.
Route 10,000 of the blow
The route of this route corresponds to the first part of the mass
MTB cycling march the 10,000 of the blow, one of the most famous in Spain. It is only the first part of the complete route of the test, but accumulates more than 1,600 meters of positive slope in just 62 km, so it is necessary to have a good physical form to complete it.
However, the effort is worth it for the incredible landscapes in the surroundings of Cabezón de la Sal, the Sierra de Cabuérniga, etc. One of the most frequent prints that you will find along the route are green mountain pastures populated by cows or horses grazing. We also pass through the famous Cuevas del Soplao, of the deepest and most attractive of northern Spain, with spectacular formations of stalactites and stalagmites that are worth visiting.
Pinar de Liencres
From the mountainous area of Cabezón de la Sal we moved to the immediate vicinity of Santander to make this 44 km coast route. We cross the pine forest, in addition to its precious natural beach well known by surf practitioners in the area. From there we will travel the western coast of Santander leaving the Cantabrian Sea to the left in the first leg to La Maruca Beach, where we will turn around to return to the starting point. Fundamentally flat route, although with some hardly concentrated hard ones sovereign in the initial part.

Saja Besaya Natural Park
A softer alternative route than the 10,000 of the blow to know the surroundings of the Sierra de Cabuérniga and the valleys of the Saja and Besaya rivers, which form the Saja Besaya Natural Park. On this occasion, almost 32 kilometers must be completed with two increases in the entity, which in total accumulate 950 meters of unevenness. The landscapes we are going through are of exceptional beauty, with mountain trails surrounded by lush oak and willow forests and a multitude of streams and rivers.
Tour of the Eastern Picos de Europa
You can not miss a visit to the high mountain of Cantabria, concentrated mainly in the area near Potes, within the Picos de Europa National Park. We leave the beautiful and tourist town of the Liébana Valley to make a strenuous circular route of 60 kilometers and more than 2,000 meters of positive slope.
A good part of the Eastern Massif of the Picos de Europa is crossed by high -mountain paths, with exposed and hard sections, but the natural environment and the views well worth the effort. You can only make the spring, summer or autumn route. In winter much of the route is impracticable by accumulated snow. We recommend getting a
double suspension bike Or, if you are not in a great physical form, do it with a
trail or enduro type e-bike.
