Madone, Orca and Venge: these are the three best bicycles of 2016

Every year, bicycle manufacturers renew their flagship models with innovative proposals, whether in the form of new gear groups, lighter components, or a more aerodynamic geometry to achieve better performance, efficiency, and/or comfort on the road. Each year, Ciclismo A Fondo magazine conducts a survey so its readers—mostly amateur cyclists, semi-professionals, and cycle tourists—can choose the best road bikes
. More than 15,000 readers participated in this year’s vote. The results and the corresponding awards were presented at a gala held in the auditorium of the Spanish Olympic Committee, attended by numerous professionals from the cycling world in our country, from manufacturers and distributors to importers and specialized stores.

Trek Madone, the bike of the year

The model chosen by the magazine’s readers as the best bike of 2016 was the Trek Madone
Race Shop Limited. This model is designed for high competition and stands out for its aerodynamic design and the distribution of its stiffness, which allows all the pedaling power to be transferred to the rear wheel. As a particular feature, it is made from a very specific type of carbon that is classified by the United States government as a “strategic material” and cannot be exported as raw material, only as a finished product, such as this bike.

The award for the second bike of the year went to the Orbea Orca
M-LTDi. The Spanish manufacturer describes it as one of the best road bikes they have ever created. The engineering team at Orbea has redesigned it to achieve greater comfort for the cyclist. To this end, special attention was paid to the seat stays, seatpost, and top tube. In addition, the Orbea Orca M-LTDi 2016 is lighter than its predecessors. The frame, for example, is 250 grams lighter than last year’s model.

Specialized S-Works Venge ViAS

The third prize for Bike of the Year was awarded to the American manufacturer Specialized with its S-Works Venge ViAS model. The brand itself describes it as "the fastest bike in the world." It features an integrated design aimed at providing lower aerodynamic resistance. Ciclismo A Fondo also gave out three awards for what its readers considered the best components of the year. The first prize went to the SRAM RED sTap groupset. The second prize was awarded to the Rotor Inpower power meter. The Garmin Varia radar and the Mavic Ksyrium Pro Carbon SL T Disc wheels shared the third prize for component of the year.
